Frequency Plan

All CARES members should review and understand the Frequencies we use.


Operating Frequencies

CARES operates on the following frequencies:

Simplex 147.570 MHz Tac 1, Primary emergency net
Simplex 146.460 MHz Tac 2, Coordination between field units
Repeater 440.150+ PL=100.0 Tac 3, W6TDM
ATV 1 427.250 MHz ATV field unit to EOC link
Packet 223.620 Mhz Santa Clara Co Office Bldg (San Jose)


CARES Frequency Channel Assignments

All CARES members should load the following 2 meter frequencies into your radios.

Set #1: CARES Frequencies, REQUIRED

CH 1   Cupertino Tac 1   147.570 Simplex, PL=151.4
CH 2   Cupertino Tac 2   146.460 Simplex, PL=151.4
CH 3   Cupertino Tac 3   440.150+ PL=100.0 W6TDM

Set #2: 2 Meter County Frequencies, REQUIRED

CH 4 SCC Resource Net 146.115+ PL=100.0 AA6BT
CH 5 SCC Resource North 145.270- PL=100.0 W6ASH
CH 6 SCC Message Net 147.360+ PL=110.9 W6TI
CH 7 SSC Message Alt 1  pending
CH 8 SCC Message Alt 2 145.450- PL=100.0 K6FB
CH 9   SCC Hospital Net 145.230- PL=100.0 N6NFI

Net Frequency Guard

During an activation, CARES Net Control Station (NCS) will request one or more net participants to listen to the following Emergency Alert System (EAS) Local Primary (LP) stations and other stations of interest to monitor for reports for five minutes, then return to this net and report on what was heard.  Additionally, other Amateur Radio frequencies are also included as part of the Guard.

KCBS: 740 KHz LP1, National Primary EAS Station
KFBK 1530 KHz CA State Primary EAS Station
KLIV: 1590 KHz Public AM station (local CNN News)
K6FB: 145.45- PL=100 High-level repeater, Sierras to coast.
W6ASH: 145.270- SPECS; Mtn View to Redwood City
